the e-centre for the study of urban form evolution, pursuing human settlements for better living
UReM is the e-centre networking academic scholars contributing from different disciplines to the study of urban form evolution. It has been established in the Autumn 2023 with the aim to be a free platform helping to organise research, teaching and third mission activities on achieving sustainable and liveable urban forms.
The centre is lead by Luca S. D'Acci, associate professor at the Politecnico di Torino (Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning), and fellow at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (EHERO), and the University of Birmingham (College of Engineering and Physical Sciences).
The main function of universities is, according to MIT, generating, disseminating and preserving knowledge for the betterment of humanity, which, for UCL and Bologna University, should keep a long-term vision beyond the present, influencing public policies. One of the ways which our disciplinary subjects allow to pursue such functions, is to study and research with the desire to promote types of megacities, cities and villages for better living.
